Avengers: Endgame is released at the end of next week and big changes could be on the cards for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Evans has played Steve Rogers since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and made the character the moral centre of the Avengers. Will he be bowing out of the MCU?
Here we look at his top five moments.
5. ‘Hulk… Smash’
This one’s a simple pleasure. During the climax of The Avenger’s Steve has become the leader and is giving out the orders. He points to Hulk and delivers the famous line.
4. ‘I can do this all day’
The ending of Captain America: Civil War calls back to a scene from The First Avenger. Steve will always stand up for himself, whether it is in an alleyway standing up to bullies or in this case stopping Iron Man from killing Bucky. In both instances Cap says ‘I can do this all day’.
3. Lifting Thor’s hammer
In one of the best scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron the Avengers are having some downtime. The team are sitting around Thor’s hammer, challenging each other to try and pick it up. Everyone tries to pick it up with no success. When it comes to Caps turn he grabs the hammer and there is a slight movement. Thor notices and Steve stops trying saying he can’t lift it. Is he worthy?
2. The elevator fight
During Captain America: Winter Soldier Cap uncovers a H.Y.D.R.A. conspiracy inside S.H.I.E.L.D and is attempting to leave the headquarters quietly. He enters a glass elevator on the outside of the building and one by one the H.Y.D.R.A. strike team get in with him. Steve politely asks if anyone wants to get out and when they attack he beats them senseless.
1. Steve jumps on a grenade
At the start of Captain America: The First Avenger Steve proves that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero. During basic training, before he has become Captain America, Steve jumps on a grenade to save the rest of his squad. Unbeknownst to Rogers, this is a dummy grenade that was thrown as a test to decide who would be picked for the Super Soldier program.
