David Benioff, the writer of ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, and his long-time writing and producing partner D. B. Weiss have walked out on their deal to create the next Star Wars trilogy. The pair, best known for showrunning ‘Game Of Thrones’, have blamed scheduling issues as they have recently signed an exclusive deal with Netflix.
The pair issued this statement to Deadline.
We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything. There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away.

At this time there are still new Star Wars films being developed by both Rian Johnson and Kevin Feige but the film release slate is unclear after Episode IX. The future of the franchise seems to be on the small screen for the next couple of years starting with the release of ‘The Mandalorian’ in a couple of weeks.
