It is being reported by Variety that Steven Spielberg, after directing the original four films, is stepping down from directing the fifth ‘Indiana Jones’.
‘Logan’ director James Mangold is the favourite to sit in the director’s chair but no deal has been closed. Spielberg would remain on the project as producer.
According to the report, Spielberg is looking to pass the ‘Indy’ on to the next generation and looking to have fresh blood bring a new take to the franchise. Harrison Ford is still very much attached to star but Indiana Jones co-creator George Lucas has retired from film making and is not expected to be involved in an official compacity.
The film is scheduled for release on 9th July 2021 and there has been no comment on whether this will stay or be pushed to a later date.
