In a surprising announcement it has been revealed that Ben Affleck will be returning as Batman in the upcoming ‘The Flash’ movie.
The film’s director Andy Muschietti, in an interview with Vanity Fair, confirmed that Affleck is back as Batman and will star alongside Michael Keaton’s also returning Batman. Based on the ‘Flashpoint’ storyline, that deals with time travel and alternate realities, it looks like the Flash is going to be sidelined in his own movie.
Muschietti is pitching Affleck as the emotional heart of the movie so this sounds like more than just a cameo.
“He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”Andy Muschietti/Vanity Fair
Affleck had previously said he was finished with the character so this news came completely out of the blue. Expect more news this weekend at DC’s Fandome online event. More Cavill Superman?
