After months of rumours, Lucasfilm have official announced that they will be producing a ‘Willow’ series for the Disney streaming service. The series will be a continuation of the 1988 Ron Howard directed fantasy film.
Warwick Davis returns as Willow Ufgood in the series with Jon M. Chu signed on to direct the pilot and executive produce alongside Howard. The show will pick up years after the film and introduce a new cast of characters into its world of fairy queens and monsters. No other casting has been announced yet.
Jonathan Kasdan (‘Solo’) has written the pilot and will serve as showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle (‘Arrow’). Bob Dolman, the writer of the original, is on board as consulting producer.
This will be Lucasfilm’s first non-‘Star Wars’ project since 2015.
