According to The Wrap, Angel Manuel Soto has signed on to direct the ‘Blue Beetle’ film for DC Films and Warner Bros.
The film will focus on the third character to take the name Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, a Mexican-American working-class teenager Jaime Reyes who lives in El Paso. He gets his powers from an alien scarab beetle that fuses to his spine and can form an Iron Man-esque armour around him.
This will be the first Latino lead superhero film and will be written by Mexican-born Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
The Blue Beetle is one of DC’s legacy characters and dates back to 1939, the same year that Batman was created. There is hugh potential in this project as over the years the character has changed from earth based crimefighter to intergalactic hero with ties to the Teen Titans and Green Lanterns.
